Craig Wieczorkiewicz has worked in the newspaper industry since October 1996. During his reporting career, he has covered various government entities (city councils, school boards and a county board), politics (including the 2010 congressional race between then-incumbent U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson and now-freshman U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger), crime and courts. He also wrote a political column, utilized social media such as Twitter and Facebook to expand the reach of his work, and occasionally created videos to accompany online articles.
Craig’s reporting has earned him numerous statewide awards, most notably for his coverage of the March 2003 abduction and murder of 7-year-old Streator resident Dalton Mesarchik. He also has earned a reputation as an excellent copy editor and served a five-month stint as managing editor of Ottawa Delivered while still attending to his regular reporting duties.
Craig started this commentary blog in November 2008 while between jobs due to layoffs. He currently works on a freelance basis and is writing a book about the baseball stadiums of the Midwest League. You can read his book-related work on his other blog, The Midwest League Traveler.
